The 8th Annual Great MN River Birding Day is only a month away! Don't
miss this chance to bird the MN River Valley and participate in one of
the 3 rallies. On Friday, September 14th we will be birding west of Hwy
15 which runs from St. Cloud south through Hutchinson, New Ulm, Madelia
and Fairmont to the Iowa border. There will be a rally at the Lac Qui
Parle Wildlife Management Area Headquarters off US 59/Hwy 7 northwest of
Montevideo from 4:30-6:30PM. On Saturday, September 15th we will be
birding throughout the watershed from Faribault County in the SE to
Otter Tail County in the NW and from the MN Valley NWR in the east to
Big Stone NWR in the west. There will be rallies at the Rasmussen
Nature Center in Mankato from 2:00-4:00PM and at the MN Valley NWR in
Bloomington from 1:00-3:00PM. There will be snacks and refreshments at
all 3 rallies. There will also be copies of the 3 new birding guides
published by Audubon MN for the MN River Valley, the Mississippi River
Valley and the North Shore for sale at a special price. There is no
cost for the event and it is open to the public.
You can bird all day Friday and/or Saturday or just for a couple of
hours.
You can bird on your own or with a group. Last year we identified 204
species! That will be a tough record to beat. The more people we have
in the field the better our chances will be, so join us. For more
information or to register for the event please contact Bob Williams at
612-728-2232 or at bxwilliams at cbburnet.com.
