This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday December 11th sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

That BARROW'S GOLDENEYE is still at the Blue Lake treatment plant in Scott County, and it was reported as recently as the 7th.

At Black Dog Lake in Dakota County, a 1st winter GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL, an adult THAYER'S GULL and a 2nd winter GLAUCOUS GULL have all been reported since December 7th. Also in the area is an immature BLACK- CROWNED NIGHT-HERON. A GLAUCOUS GULL was at Lake Rebecca in the town of Hastings on the 6th.

A SNOWY OWL was discovered on the 10th near the West Bank of the University of Minnesota. Specifically, it was on the grassy right of way at the junction of Washington and Cedar Avenues.

A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was lingering at St. John's University near St. Cloud, Stearns County on Dec 8.

And a large flock of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS was reported by Bob Jessen in the town of Austin in Mower County on December 7th. I am also getting numerous reports of PINE GROSBEAKS and COMMON REDPOLLS from many northern and east-central counties, especially Pine, Carlton and Aitkin.
