This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, August 27th 2009.

In Duluth, a WHITE-WINGED DOVE was seen briefly on the 24th as it sat on a telephone wire just south of the intersection of Superior Street and 54th Avenue East. But the bird took flight and has not been reported since.

A juvenile, white phase LITTLE BLUE HERON is being seen at Turtle Lake County Park in Shoreview, Ramsey County. Check near the boat launch of this small park on the southeastern shore of Turtle Lake along Hodgson Road about a mile south of county road I.

Two PARASITIC JAEGERS were seen in Duluth on the 24th from the Park Point Recreation Area.

On August 26th, nineteen BLACK-BILLED MAGPIES were along Aitkin County Road 15 near the town of Aitkin, about three and a half miles west of the junction of Minnesota Avenue North and 4th St N.W.

In Stevens County, an AMERICAN AVOCET was seen on the 24th along highway 117 between Traverse and Mud Lakes. Other migrants reported over the past week include STILT SANDPIPER, WILSON'S PHALAROPE, CASPIAN TERN, COMMON NIGHTHAWK, WHIP-POOR-WILL, OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, TENNESSEE WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, and MOURNING WARBLER.
