This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday February 8th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Many of this week's birds are being reported from in and around the Duluth area.

In Duluth, St. Lous County, Herb Dingmann found a male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE on February 3rd in the channel below the aerial lift bridge in Canal Park. The bird is associating with a large flock of Common Goldeneye. Look on the harbor side of the aerial lift bridge for a group of about 60 birds.

Both the adult GYRFALCON and a PEREGRINE FALCON are still being seen at the Cargill elevator in the Duluth harbor, along with that GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH. Please remember that access is restricted to Saturday and Sunday only.

A male HARLEQUIN DUCK is still being seen on the north shore near Duluth. The most consistent spot seems to be at the mouth of the French River. Both WHITE-WINGED SCOTER and LONG-TAILED DUCK have also been reported up the shore during the past week.

On February 6th, Jim Lind relocated a BOREAL OWL that was seen in Two Harbors last weekend. It was at the end of the alley behind 215 - 4th Ave.

Vada Rudolph reported on February 6th a SNOWY OWL in downtown Minneapolis in a parking lot between 9th and 10th Streets.

A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE is still present in Knife River, Lake County, in the yards along highway 61 across from Emily's Restaurant. A second Solitaire was found last weekend in Two Harbors, Lake County in the alley below 2nd St. and 4th Ave.

An EASTERN TOWHEE returned to Eagle Ridge Resort in Lutsen, Cook County, on February 8th. The last sighting of this bird had been January 11th.
