1574:1612002-04-21MoorheadClay(record #2002-47, vote 7–0). Field notes were written at the time of observation before any field guides were consulted. As with the above Say's Phoebe record (2002-44), a record's documentation is always strengthened if field notes on the bird's appearance are written before the observer looks at any references. A field sketch, no matter how crude, is also recommended. When consulting a field guide first, it becomes too easy to end up describing what the bird looked like in the book (i.e., what it should have looked like), rather than describing the actual appearance of the bird in the field. Accepted
1675:412002-10-042002-10-09BloomingtonHennepin(record #2002-77, vote 7–0). This wren was only seen by a lone observer with no previous experience with this species, but her documentation is complete and entirely convincing. Accepted

1876:392003-06-08Fredenberg TownshipSt. Louis(record #2003-37, vote 5–2). Those not accepting this record were concerned that the detailed documentation does not describe the tail pattern, and that the description was apparently only written from memory after more than a month. Accepted
