A post today from the Wisconsin Birding Network, thought some Minnesotans would like to know. Also pretty interesting is where this individual has traveled. (Read below this message for more information.)

Fyi, per an update from my friend on the project, this Whimbrel has spent the past two nights roosting on Minnesota (Park) Point! I would guess it'll spend tonight there as well and then head out following Tuesday's strong cold front...

Many of you have likely heard of "Winnie," a Whimbrel fitted with a radiotransmitter last spring in Virginia who subsequently surprised researchers by migrating not to Hudson Bay as expected but rather to Alaska. The bird then headed south beginning in late July and spent several weeks at Willapa Bay in Washington state. She left Wallapa Bay on August 23 and has since flown nearly due east for at least 1676 miles!

How does this relate to Wisconsin birding? The bird stopped on Outer Island for at least 4 hours on August 26 and is currently along Wisconsin's shoreline of Lake Superior.

Here's the website showing her route. They haven't updated it over the past few days but the above info came from a friend on the project who gave me permission to mention it here.
