[rba] [mou] Minnesota's first murrelet?

A friend pointed out a little something he remembered as a young person
reading Laura Ingalls Wilder's The Long Winter. Check out pages 53, 54,

Interesting description. The Wilders thought it was a great auk but
could it be a murrelet?
