This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, August 21st, 2008
sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were found on the 18th in Two Harbors on
the ball fields along CR 2 (4th Street) two blocks north of MN Highway
61, but they have not been relocated. STILT SANDPIPERS, BAIRD'S
SANDPIPERS and SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were also seen on the same day at
the Two Harbors golf course clubhouse and at the small wetland behind
the beach dune at the Flood Bay wayside rest, one mile northeast of
town.

The first large movement of migrant COMMON NIGHTHAWKS was reported on
the 18th when John Green counted about 800 along the Old North Shore
Road at the Homestead Road (CR 42). Interestingly, the birds were seen
between 9:30 and 10:00 in the morning rather than in the evening.

The next scheduled update of this report will be on Thursday, August
28th.

The telephone number of the Duluth Rare Bird Alert is 218-834-2858.
Information about bird sightings may be left following the recorded
message.
